A new year feels like a clean slate. If you have been thinking about straightening your teeth or improving your bite, 2026 is the perfect time to start. At Auckland City Orthodontics, we make the process simple, flexible and genuinely supportive, from your first chat with our team to the day you reveal your new smile.
You will meet Specialist Orthodontists who plan every step using digital scans and 3D simulations, so you can see a preview of your potential result before you begin. You can choose between near invisible clear aligners like Invisalign® and Angel Aligners, or modern metal and tooth coloured braces. With virtual consultations, digital check ins and flexible payment plans, your treatment can fit neatly around work, family and travel.
How to start orthodontic treatment in Auckland
Getting started is easier than you might expect. Here is a straightforward pathway.
Book a consultation, virtual or in practice.
Share your goals and any concerns about timing, budgets or previous dental work. Free initial consultations are available in many cases, however a consultation fee may apply in some situations such as complex assessments or second opinions, so ask our team when you book.
Get your digital scan and assessment.
We take an iTero scan to create a precise 3D model of your teeth, then our Specialist Orthodontists map out options to correct crowding, spacing or bite issues. You will see a simulation of predicted outcomes, which helps you choose between aligners or braces with confidence.
Review timelines and costs.
Treatment length depends on your needs. Many clear aligner cases are around 9 to 12 months, while fixed braces are often 12 to 18 months. We outline fees, what is included and flexible payment plans. You will know exactly what to expect before you start.
Start when you are ready.
For aligners, you will receive a series of custom trays and guidance on wear time, usually 20 to 22 hours per day. For braces, we place the brackets and share care tips, foods to avoid and how to handle minor issues between visits.
Progress with smart monitoring.
Virtual check ins and self scan tools keep you on track with fewer in clinic visits, which is ideal if you travel or have a busy schedule. When in person reviews are needed, you can choose the location that suits you best across Auckland CBD, Remuera, Highbrook and Grey Lynn.
What is the process for getting braces or aligners?
Both pathways are carefully planned and supervised, and the steps are similar.
Initial consult and scan.
We assess your teeth, bite and jaw function. You will see your 3D scans and a proposed plan.
Custom plan and consent.
We design your tooth movements digitally, explain expected milestones and answer questions about comfort, hygiene and lifestyle.
Fitting or first aligners.
- Clear aligners: You will receive several sets to change on a schedule set by your clinician. Attachments, small tooth coloured bumps, may be placed to help guide movements. Remove trays to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush or rinse before reinserting.
- Braces: We bond brackets to your teeth and place a custom wire. We provide orthodontic wax, hygiene tools and a braces friendly food list. Soft, bite sized foods are your friend in the first week.
Reviews and refinements.
We check progress virtually and in person at set intervals. For aligners, refinements are common and simply mean we print a few extra trays to perfect the result. For braces, we may add elastics or adjust wires to fine tune your bite.
Retainers and long term care.
At the end, we provide retainers, often a combination of a fixed wire behind the front teeth plus a removable clear tray at night. Retention is essential to keep your smile stable.
Tips for a smooth experience:
- Set phone reminders for aligner wear and tray changes.
- Travel with a spare aligner set, a case, chewies, a small water bottle and cleaning wipes.
- For braces, keep wax handy for comfort and use interdental brushes to reach around brackets.
- If you lose a tray, move to the next set if advised and contact us. If it does not seat well, return to the previous set that fits best until we guide you.
- Sip water only while aligners are in, and avoid hard or sticky foods with braces to prevent breakages.
Your options, from discreet aligners to advanced braces
You have choices, and your Specialist Orthodontist will help you select the right one.
- Invisalign®: Nearly invisible, removable and planned with detailed 3D simulations. Great for busy adults and teens who value aesthetics and fewer clinic visits.
- Angel Aligners: A high quality clear aligner option with excellent clarity and control.
- Metal braces: Reliable and efficient for a wide range of cases.
- Tooth coloured braces: Aesthetic ceramic brackets blend with your teeth for a more discreet fixed option.
Costs and flexible payment plans
Every quote reflects your unique plan. We discuss total fees, what is included and payment options before you commit. Many patients choose an interest free plan with a deposit example around 30 percent and weekly installments, for example from about $115 per week. Exact terms and eligibility are confirmed at the time of booking.
If you are weighing choices, it can help to review common questions about how much braces and clear aligners cost. You can find more detail about inclusions, timelines and finance options on our costs page.
