Meet the
doctors
Your smile is in specialist hands. Every treatment at Auckland City Orthodontics is planned and led by a registered Specialist Orthodontist - clinicians who have spent years training in this one field. Between them, our doctors bring an international education and a genuinely warm, unhurried way of caring for patients of every age.

Dr Ross Anning
An Aucklander through and through, Dr Anning founded Auckland City Orthodontics to give his home community a convenient place to receive genuinely first-class treatment. He first qualified as a dentist at the University of Otago, then worked in both Auckland and London before returning to Otago to complete a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry - the three-year specialist qualification that made him a registered Specialist Orthodontist.
A spell back in London followed, where he gained extensive experience using state-of-the-art technology to transform smiles in complex cases - the same modern, digital approach that defines the practice today. He is a member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the British Orthodontic Society, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
A family man himself, Dr Anning has a natural way with nervous and young patients - and when he isn’t at the practice or with his young family, you’ll usually find him out on the golf course.
Dr Marco
Merino Gerlach
Dr Gerlach’s path to Auckland spans three continents. He graduated as a dentist from Valparaíso University in Chile in 2000, then moved to Buenos Aires for three years of intensive specialist orthodontic training at Del Salvador University. His pursuit of excellence continued with a mini-residency at the University of Pennsylvania and a two-year postgraduate programme in San Diego under one of the US’s most respected orthodontists, Dr Richard McLaughlin - training that prepared him for the most complex and surgical cases.
He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists, and has been a registered Specialist Orthodontist in New Zealand since 2023. Married for over 20 years and a dad of two boys, he loves getting active with his family - especially skiing and cycling.
Dr Linda
Astrug Markman
Dr Markman brings a truly international education to Auckland City Orthodontics. She graduated from the Medical University of Sofia in Bulgaria in 1999 and worked as a dentist in Bulgaria and Israel before completing her postgraduate degree in orthodontics. Today she is a registered orthodontic specialist in New Zealand, the UK, Belgium and Bulgaria.
She is deeply passionate about orthodontics - especially working with younger children - and counts herself fortunate to deliver great smiles every day. Outside the clinic, her time is happily taken up by her husband and two young children.
